ISTANBUL (AA) - Türkiye and the UK will begin to discuss updating their free trade agreement, the Turkish Trade Ministry announced on Thursday.
The ministry said on X that Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat and his UK counterpart Kemi Badenoch met in London and decided to start negotiations for an updated agreement.
The UK is one of Türkiye’s most important trade partners, with trade among the parties at around $19 billion annually, the ministry said.
The existing pact managed to protect trade relations between the two countries after the Brexit process, the statement read.
Updating discussions will include services trade, investments, and agricultural compromises, the ministry said.
The new pact will strengthen the parties’ economic and trade relations, it added.
The first session of negotiations is expected to be held this June 10.
