KONYA, Turkiye (AA) – On the third day of Turkiye's first climate council meeting in the central Konya province, delegates on Wednesday discussed carbon emissions reduction, green financing, and climate change adaptation.

Experts gathered at the Selcuklu Congress Center to discuss reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation to climate change, migration, social policies, as well as scientific and technological solutions in fighting adverse effects of climate change.

Referring to the efforts as part of the meeting, Turkiye's Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum said the fight against climate change will continue shoulder-to-shoulder with the country's youth.

"We will create our roadmap to combat climate change together with our young people who look to the future with bright eyes," the Turkish minister said on Twitter.

Turkiye's first climate council kicked off on Monday with the aim of establishing a roadmap in line with the Paris Agreement to reach net-zero emissions by 2053. The event will end on Friday.

Over 1,000 representatives of public institutions and universities, scientists, business people, farmers, and activists attended the event.

The country is expected to submit its updated nationally determined contributions at the 27th Conference of Parties that will take place this November in Egypt, where green financing will be among the main topics.

A climate law, set for completion this year, is considered another milestone in the fight against climate change.
