ANKARA (AA) – Türkiye’s ambassador to Mauritania, Burhan Koroglu, on Thursday has been appointed as the charge d'affaires ad interim at the Turkish Embassy in Damascus.
Koroglu, who was serving as Türkiye’s ambassador to Nouakchott, has been assigned to temporarily represent Türkiye’s diplomatic mission in Syria's capital Damascus, the Turkish diplomatic sources said.
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has informed Ambassador Koroglu of his new assignment.
The Turkish Embassy in Damascus near the Rida Square, where many diplomatic missions are located, had continued its operations during the violent crackdown by the regime on peaceful protesters.
However, the embassy ceased its daily activities on March 26, 2012, and the staff and their families returned to Türkiye.
Meanwhile, Türkiye’s Consulate General in Istanbul continued its operations.
