Türkiye's BIST 100 index closes midweek with losses

Benchmark index loses more than 941 points at Wednesday's closing session

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed Wednesday at 9,860.29 points, down 8.72%, or 941.94 points from the previous close.

The BIST 100 index started the day at 10,060.48, losing 741.75 points from the close on Tuesday.

The lowest point for the index was 9,806.52, while the daily high was 10,378.14.

During the day, all of the 100 indexes lost in value.

The daily transaction volume reached 171 billion liras ($4.5 billion), while the overall value of the index was 8.81 trillion liras ($240.8 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 37.9300 as of 6.25 pm local time (1525GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 41.4685, and the British pound traded at 49.4110.

The price of an ounce of gold was $3,032.60 per ounce, while the barrel price of Brent oil was $70.70.
