Türkiye's BIST 100 index rises 1.26% at midweek close

Benchmark index earns 131.72 points at Wednesday's closing session

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Turkish benchmark stock index closed Wednesday at 10,618.97 points, up 1.26% from the previous close.

After starting the day at 10,492.91, the BIST 100 index climbed 131.72 points from its close on Tuesday.

The lowest point for the index was 10,481.53, while the daily high was 10,648.94.

During the day, 71 indexes gained in value while 29 closed with losses.

The daily transaction volume reached 113.5 billion Turkish liras ($2.8 billion), while the overall value of the index was 9.84 trillion liras ($243 billion).

The USD/TRY exchange rate was 40.5845 as of 6.20 p.m. local time (1520GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 46.6320, and the British pound traded at 53.9870.

The price of an ounce of gold was $3,299.20, while the barrel price of Brent oil was $72.05.
