Türkiye's central government gross debt stock at $200.8B in August

ANKARA (AA) - The Turkish central government’s gross debt stock stood at 3.65 trillion Turkish liras (some $200.8 billion) at the end of August, according to official figures released on Tuesday.

The Treasury and Finance Ministry’s data showed the figure was up from 2.1 trillion liras ($287.8 billion) in the same period last year.

The gross debt stock includes the outstanding debt of public sector institutions, the Central Bank, private companies, and households.

Some 33% of the debt stock is denominated in Turkish liras, while the rest is in foreign currency.

While 1.7 trillion liras ($92.9 billion) of the debt was domestic, nearly 2 trillion liras ($107.9 billion) was external, it added.

As of Aug. 31, the stock of Treasury receivables totaled 21.1 billion liras ($1.2 billion), the data showed.

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was around 18.18 at the end of August.
