Türkiye’s Diyanet Foundation opens education center in Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania (AA) – Türkiye’s Diyanet Foundation Saturday inaugurated the TDV Chanika Education Center in Dar es Salaam, the business capital of Tanzania.

The center will accommodate over 60 orphans and underprivileged children, offering comprehensive education in Quranic studies, social sciences, and character development.

The facility in the East African country also features recreational amenities such as a basketball court and children's games.

Fatih Kurt, board member of the TDV, a group connected to the Turkish Religious Affairs Directorate, stressed that the center aims to nurture brotherhood and community welfare, rooted in Islamic principles of love and mutual support.

The initiative, serving children and young people age 5-17, is expected to strengthen ties between the East African nations and Türkiye, and try to help the young beneficiaries grow into positive contributors to society.

“Helping needy children and orphans is a duty," Kurt said.

Abdullaziz Abdi, director of the TDV Chanika Education Center, told Anadolu that the center not only benefits children but also creates job opportunities for local residents, prioritizing the inclusion of underprivileged children.

Abdi highlighted that the center's establishment came in response to the challenges faced by orphans and vulnerable children in the community.

Thanks to generous land donations, the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation was able to bring to life its vision of building a permanent institution to provide education and care.

“This center is vital, as orphans in our community often face abuse and separation from their families," Abdi said.
