Turkmenistan celebrates Day of Neutrality
'With historic decision adopted by UN General Assembly 28 years ago, our homeland gained legal permanent neutrality status,' says Turkmen president

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan (AA) - Turkmenistan on Tuesday held various event on the occasion of the country's Day of Neutrality, which marks the Central Asian nation's recognition of its neutrality by the UN.
"With the historic decision adopted by the UN General Assembly 28 years ago, our homeland gained legal permanent neutrality status," Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said in a congratulatory message.
Berdimuhamedov said that his country carries out a "forward-looking, goal-oriented foreign policy that fully supports the world community's efforts for global peace, security and sustainable development."
"Located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe ... Turkmenistan has gained positive experience in establishing harmonious cooperation with world countries and prestigious international organizations and creating more effective channels of mutually beneficial relations," he added.
Many cultural events were held across the country, while an official event was also held at the Neutrality Monument in the capital Ashgabat with the participation of Berdimuhamedov, government officials and foreign representatives.
In 1995, Turkmenistan became the only country in the world to declare a policy of permanent neutrality following the adoption of a resolution by the UN General Assembly.
