Typhoon Yagi kills 36 more in Vietnam, brings death toll 233
103 still missing, 823 injured, 136,705 houses damaged, according to authorities

ISTANBUL (AA) - With 36 more deaths in the past 24 hours, the death toll from Typhoon Yagi has risen to 233 in Vietnam, the country's Department of Disaster Prevention and Control reported on Friday.
The storm has left 103 people missing and 823 injured, the department said, adding that Lao Cai province was hit hardest, accounting for 98 dead and 81 missing people.
Over 130,000 people have been evacuated, while 136,705 houses were damaged. The typhoon also ravaged infrastructure, toppling telecommunication poles and uprooting trees in urban areas.
Agricultural losses were severe, with more than 200,000 hectares of rice fields and nearly 40,000 hectares of crops flooded. Additionally, over 1.7 million poultry perished in the disaster.
Transportation networks were significantly impacted, with railway services disrupted due to damaged tracks and flooding.
International aid efforts are underway, with Australia already providing eight tons of relief goods. The Southeast Asian regional bloc ASEAN Regional Coordination Center and Japan's JICA are expected to deliver additional support in the coming days.
China and Vietnam have initiated joint meteorological disaster prevention efforts in response to the typhoon's impact, the Chinese state media reported.
