ISTANBUL (AA) - United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan said Wednesday that his country will treat some 1,000 injured Palestinian children at its hospitals.

The decision was announced during a phone call between UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mirjana Spoljaric, the Emirati state news agency WAM reported.

The two sides also stressed the importance of delivering relief and medical aid to civilians in Gaza.

Earlier on Wednesday, the first group of injured Palestinians arrived in Egypt to complete their medical treatment at hospitals in the North Sinai governorate following the opening of the Rafah border crossing for the first time in 25 days amid intense fighting in Gaza.

The Israeli army has widened its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since the Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise offensive on Oct. 7.

More than 10,300 people have since been killed in the conflict, including at least 8,796 Palestinians and more than 1,538 Israelis, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
