LONDON (AA) - The UK and Germany on Tuesday unveiled a robust joint action plan aimed at tackling irregular migration, migrant smuggling, and the organized criminal networks that facilitate it.

This new framework underscores the deepening cooperation between the two nations as European allies and partners in the Calais Group – a group of northern European nations – pledging to strengthen border security and disrupt transnational criminal activities, according to a statement by the UK government.

The plan, set to run from this month through next December, outlines a series of ambitious goals designed to address the pressing challenges posed by irregular migration.

These include breaking the business model of smuggling and trafficking networks, reducing irregular migratory flows, preventing the loss of life on dangerous routes, and increasing the return of individuals with no legal right to reside in the UK or Germany.

It also focuses on reinforcing European cooperation to combat the criminal networks behind these activities.

With the first phase covering a 12-month period, the plan’s objectives and impact will be reviewed annually to ensure its effectiveness in addressing evolving challenges.
