UK says N.Korea’s 'unlawful' ballistic missile launches 'another breach' of multiple UN resolutions

LONDON (AA) - Britain on Monday criticized North Korea’s first ballistic missile launches of 2025, saying they violated multiple UN Security Council resolutions.

North Korea’s “ballistic missile launch on 6 January is another breach of multiple UN Security Council resolutions," a spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office said in a statement.

They said unlawful ballistic missile launches continue to destabilize the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula.

"The UK strongly urges (North Korea) to stop such provocations, return to dialogue and take credible steps towards denuclearisation," the spokesperson added.

The statement came after North Korea fired at least seven short-range ballistic missiles early Tuesday off its eastern coast following the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) last October.

North Korea on Monday fired its first ballistic missile of the year into the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan.

The launch was confirmed by South Korean and Japanese authorities, though Pyongyang has yet to provide details.
