UK urges its citizens to leave Lebanon
Foreign Office says it continues to advise against all travel to the country
By Burak Bir
LONDON (AA) - Britain encouraged its nationals on Tuesday to leave Lebanon while commercial options remain available.
Updating its travel warning, the UK Foreign Office said the situation in Lebanon "is volatile and has the potential to deteriorate quickly."
It warned citizens that it cannot guarantee it will be able to evacuate them in an emergency situation.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office “continues to advise against all travel to the whole of Lebanon," it added.
Tensions on the Israeli-Lebanese border have been rising since the Palestinian group Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on Oct. 7 and Israel's subsequent campaign of heavy airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.
The Lebanese Hezbollah group and the Israeli army have also exchanged fire, resulting in deaths and injuries on both sides.
