ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine claimed on Sunday that it downed over 30 Russian drones during an overnight attack.
A statement by the Ukrainian Air Force claimed that its air defenses downed 31 out of 68 Russian drones over the country’s Kyiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Cherkasy regions.
The Air Force claimed that in total, 36 Russian drones were neutralized over various areas, with another drone reportedly still airborne.
Cherkasy Governor Ihor Taburets stated on Telegram that debris from the intercepted drones damaged several houses in the region.
No further details from local authorities have been released.
“This week alone, Russians have used around 900 guided aerial bombs, over 40 missiles, and 400 strike drones of various types against Ukraine,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X.
“Our partners have the ability to provide the necessary quantity and quality of air defense systems, make decisions for our sufficient long-range capabilities, and ensure the timely delivery of defensive aid to our troops. Time must not be wasted – a clear signal of resolve must be sent,” he added.
Russian authorities have not yet commented on the claims.
