Ukraine claims it retook control of village in northeastern Sumy region

Ukrainian forces recapture village of Bezsalivka, claims General Staff

By Burc Eruygur

ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine claimed on Sunday that it retook control of a village in the country’s northeastern Sumy region from Russian control.

A statement by Ukraine’s General Staff claimed that its forces recaptured the village of Bezsalivka, situated less than a kilometer from the country’s border with Russia in the northeastern region.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed it took control of the settlement back on July 7.

The village is located about 48 kilometers (29.8 miles) northwest of the region’s administrative center, the city of Sumy, which has been regularly targeted by Russian airstrikes amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, now in its fourth year.

Russian authorities have not immediately commented on the claim, and independent verification of Ukraine’s claim is difficult due to the ongoing armed conflict.
