ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svitlana Hrynchuk said Tuesday that his country and Denmark signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation on water management.
The memorandum, signed during an informal meeting of EU environment ministers in Poland, foresees the creation of a modern system for monitoring water resources in Ukraine, restoration of water infrastructure and pollution control initiatives.
“Given the significant loss of water resources and constant threats due to the war, it is important for us to strengthen this area,” said Hrynchuk, noting Denmark’s readiness to support with expertise, strategies and innovative technologies.
The agreement includes efforts to reform Ukraine’s water sector according to European standards and attract private sector investments for infrastructure development.
Ukraine and Denmark previously cooperated on water supply projects for Ukraine’s southern regions and in the context of European integration.
The new memorandum formalizes and expands the partnership.
