Ukraine, Estonia commence talks on security agreement

Deputy head of Ukraine’s presidential office says important to conclude deals with all Baltic states

By Burc Eruygur

ISTANBUL (AA) – Kyiv began talks with Estonia on a security agreement between the two countries, Ukraine’s presidential office said in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement said both parties began their work on the draft agreement and agreed on a schedule for further talks.

The talks were conducted by deputy head of the presidential office, Ihor Zhovkva, and Estonia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kyllike Sillaste-Elling.

"It is important to conclude strong security agreements with all the Baltic states, which provide us with enormous assistance in relation to their GDP,” Zhovkva said.

Since January, Ukraine, where Russia launched a "special military operation" two years ago, has signed deals with the UK, Germany, France, Denmark, Italy, and Canada to further deepen defense cooperation and support.

The security agreements are aimed at sending a message of long-term solidarity as Ukraine is currently said to be facing low ammunition supplies and a shortage of personnel.
