ISTANBUL (AA) - Kyiv and Athens on Thursday signed a bilateral security cooperation agreement.

“Today, we signed an Agreement on Security Cooperation with the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis,” Zelenskyy said in a statement on X, after talks with the Greek premier following a European Council meeting in Brussels.

Zelenskyy said that Greece has been providing military support to Ukraine in multiple forms, including material and technical assistance.

He further said that the deal confirms Greece’s readiness to continue meeting Ukraine’s “most urgent defense needs,” as well as its provision of additional resources to Kyiv to accelerate F-16 training for Ukrainian pilots and technicians.

A corresponding statement by the Ukrainian presidency said the agreement also includes matters such as economic partnership, security cooperation, and support for sanctions against Russia.

“Greece pledges to participate in the restoration and reconstruction of Ukraine, supports its future membership in the EU and NATO, and the Peace Formula,” it added.

With the signing of the deal, Ukraine has agreed on bilateral security treaties with 26 countries, including the UK, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, France, Canada, Japan, and the Netherlands, as well as the EU itself.

The agreements came as the Group of Seven declared during a NATO summit in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius in July last year that it is launching negotiations with Kyiv to formalize its "enduring support" for Ukraine through "bilateral security commitments and arrangements."
