Ukraine says 1 killed, 11 injured by Russian missile strike in Kryvyi Rih

ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine said on Tuesday that at least one person was killed and 11 were injured by a Russian missile strike on the city of Kryvyi Rih in the country’s central Dnipropetrovsk region.

“On Christmas Eve, the enemy (Russia) struck a residential building in the city of Kryvyi Rih … As of 6:20 a.m. (1620GMT), one person was reported dead. Another 11 residents were injured, including a 16-year-old girl,” Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on Telegram.

Klymenko said that the Russian airstrike targeted a residential area in Kryvyi Rih, partially destroying a four-story apartment building.

He further said that nearby shops and more than 20 cars and windows in a neighboring building were also damaged during the attack.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said in a separate statement that search and rescue efforts are ongoing at the scene of the strike, indicating that there probably are still people under the rubble.

“More than 60 rescuers are working at the scene and 14 pieces of equipment have been deployed,” the statement added.

Kryvyi Rih Mayor Oleksandr Vilkul claimed on Telegram that the building was struck with a ballistic missile.

Russian authorities have not yet commented on the attack.
