ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine said on Sunday that at least one person was killed and 41 injured in Russian airstrikes in the country’s northeastern Kharkiv and Sumy regions.
A statement by the Sumy Regional Military Administration on Telegram said an overnight missile attack that hit grain trucks killed one person and injured four others near the village of Verkhnya Syrovatka, almost 14 kilometers (8,7 miles) southeast of the city of Sumy.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Air Force claimed that Russia launched an Iskander-M missile and eight attack drones over the Sumy and Mykolaiv regions.
Meanwhile, Kharkiv Governor Oleh Synyehubov said that the number of people injured due to shelling in the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, rose to 41.
“The number of victims in Kharkiv increased to 41, including 5 children,” Synyehubov said on Telegram.
Previously, Synyehubov said that 29 were injured after Russian shelling struck the city’s Sports Palace, as well as a shopping center and a hydropark.
Reacting to the attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X: “All necessary forces have been deployed for the rescue operation. But to stop this terror, all necessary global forces must be mobilized. What’s required isn’t extraordinary effort, but the sufficient courage of leaders – the courage to give Ukraine everything it needs to defend itself.”
Russian authorities have not yet commented on the attacks.
