ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine said on Monday that at least 15 people were injured in a Russian airstrike in the country’s northeastern Kharkiv region.

Kharkiv Governor Oleh Synyehubov said on Telegram that 11 civilians were injured during late Sunday attacks, which damaged local infrastructure, including two residential buildings.

Separately, Ukraine’s National Police said four policemen were injured in the attacks, which targeted the city’s Shevchenkivskyi district.

Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, located about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from the Russian border, has been regularly targeted by airstrikes, which have increased as Russia attempts to breach Ukraine’s defenses in the broader region since early May.

The Russian offensive in the northeastern region opened a new front in the over two-year-long conflict that was hitherto concentrated in the country’s east and south.

The Ukrainian Air Force claimed the Kharkiv region was targeted by guided bombs, and missiles and drones were also used over multiple regions, including the capital Kyiv.

The Russian Defense Ministry later claimed that it damaged military infrastructure, energy facilities and an oil refinery used to supply the Ukrainian army.
