Ukraine says 2 people treated for acute stress reaction amid missile attack on Kharkiv

Kharkiv mayor says medical clinic damaged by missile attack that struck central part of city

By Burc Eruygur

ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine said on Tuesday that two people are being treated for acute stress reaction following a missile strike in the country’s northeastern city of Kharkiv.

“At this moment, two people with acute stress reaction applied (for treatment). People may (still) be under the rubble,” Kharkiv Governor Oleh Synyehubov said in a statement on Telegram.

Earlier, Synyehubov said the missile attack hit the central part of Kharkiv, and that emergency services were dispatched to the scene.

Meanwhile, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said the strike resulted in a fire and also damaged a medical clinic.

“Information about the injured and the destruction is being clarified,” Terekhov added.

Russian authorities have not yet commented on the strike.

Ukraine’s second-largest city Kharkiv, located about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from the Russian border, has been regularly targeted by airstrikes, which have increased after Russia’s attempts to breach Ukraine’s defenses in the broader region since early May.

The Russian offensive in the northeastern region opened a new front in the over two-year-long conflict that was hitherto concentrated in the country’s east and south.

Russia claims to have seized control of multiple border settlements since the start of its offensive on the Kharkiv front, as well as other fronts, including Donetsk and Luhansk.
