Ukraine says damaged Russian oil refinery in overnight attack

Saratov region governor confirms strike on industrial plant

ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine on Tuesday said it damaged a Russian oil refinery in an overnight attack on the Saratov region.

A statement by Ukraine’s General Staff said the military struck the Saratov Oil Refinery, about 720 kilometers (447 miles) southeast of Moscow. It is about 470 kilometers (292 miles) from the Ukrainian border.

The statement said the refinery produced a total of more than 20 types of oil products, including gasoline, fuel oil and diesel fuel.

It claimed that the facility is involved in supplying to the Russian military, adding that a fire broke out at the site due to the attack.

“The results of the hit are being clarified,” the statement said, adding that attacks on facilities involved in supporting Russian military actions in Ukraine will continue.

Saratov governor Roman Busargin confirmed a fire broke out at an industrial plant in Saratov, which was later extinguished.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that its air defenses downed 40 Ukrainian drones launched overnight, 18 of which were intercepted over Saratov.
