ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine said on Tuesday that the energy infrastructure in its western city of Ternopil was damaged due to an overnight Russian airstrike.

Ternopil Governor Vyacheslav Nehoda said on Telegram that a Russian drone damaged one of the critical infrastructure facilities in the city, expressing that no casualties were reported.

“There is no stable electricity supply in Ternopil and other settlements. The relevant services are working to resolve the problem,” Nehoda further said.

The air raid alert that sounded in the city was canceled at 4:49 a.m. local time (0249GMT), Ternopil Mayor Serhiy Nadal said on Telegram.

Concerning the damage inflicted, which he specified to be at an energy infrastructure, Nadal said that energy workers are gradually restoring Ternopil’s electricity supply.

In a later statement, Ukraine’s Air Force claimed that the country’s air defenses downed 76 out of 188 drones, as well as four Iskander-M ballistic missiles, launched by Russia overnight.

Aside from Ternopil, the statement said the downed drones were intercepted over 16 other regions of Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv.

Russian authorities have not yet commented on the claim.
