ISTANBUL (AA)—Ukraine’s parliament on Wednesday ratified a "100-Year Partnership" agreement signed between Kyiv and London earlier this year to deepen defense cooperation and address long-term threats and challenges to maritime security.
Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksii Honcharenko announced the Verkhovna Rada’s ratification of the deal, saying it was approved with 295 votes in support.
“This is important,” Ukraine’s Presidential Office head Andriy Yermak also wrote on the US social media company X, in reaction to the ratification of the deal by parliament.
The “100-Year Partnership” agreement was signed in January amid an unannounced visit by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
According to the agreement, which was published by Ukraine's Presidential Office, the two countries will deepen defense cooperation while addressing long-term threats and challenges to maritime security.
It will also strengthen cooperation in areas such as economics and trade, energy, climate change, and clean energy transitions.
