Ukraine's Zelenskyy signs decree imposing sanctions on Chinese-based companies

Latest sanctions target 5 Chinese-based companies amid claims of components found in Russian drones used in airstrike on Kyiv last week

ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday signed a decree imposing sanctions on multiple companies based in China amid claims that Chinese-made components were found in Russian drones used in an attack last week.

The decree, based on a National Security and Defense Council decision earlier Tuesday, was posted on the website of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, saying it will enter into force “on the date of its publication.”

According to the document, five Chinese-based companies have been sanctioned.

On Friday, Ukraine’s State Security Service claimed its investigators found Chinese-made components in drones used by Russia during an attack on the country’s capital Kyiv.

In April, Zelenskyy also announced new sanctions targeting nearly 100 entities and individuals, including some based in China, claiming they are involved in the production of Russian Iskander missiles. Beijing denied the accusations.

Neither Russian nor Chinese authorities have commented on the new decree.
