Ukrainian president meets US Congress members to discuss 'victory plan'

WASHINGTON (AA) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday met US Congress members at Capitol Hill to discuss key points of his "victory plan" for the war with Russia.

"This should be our shared achievement – victory for freedom, without any compromises at the cost of freedom.

"Here in the U.S. capital, we have many friends who have stood shoulder to shoulder with Ukrainians in the fight for freedom and independence since the very first days of the full-scale invasion," Zelenskyy said on X.

The president also thanked every member of the Senate for the support.

The meeting came after the US announced a new package of military weapons and nearly $8 billion of aid for the country’s fight against Russia.

Later Thursday, Zelenskyy will separately meet his US counterpart Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and present his proposal.

The plan, whose specifics have not yet been made public, includes the security guarantee of NATO membership, according to Zelenskyy’s chief of staff Andriy Yermak.
