ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukrainian sappers on Monday removed a live Russian missile that had landed in the country’s capital Kyiv but had not exploded.
A statement issued by Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS) said a local resident noticed a suspicious object, resembling a rocket part, sticking out of the ground in a forested area of Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district.
The statement said the DSNS sappers thoroughly inspected the area before removing the Kh-69 missile’s warhead.
Because the missile was a new weapon, the statement said it took DSNS specialists longer to safely remove it from the ground, load it into a special vehicle, and transport it to a detonation site.
It advised citizens to be as vigilant and cautious as possible and to notify authorities immediately if they find suspicious objects.
