Uncontacted Amazon tribe spotted near logging sites in Peru

Sighting of Mashco Piro tribespeople triggers calls for protection of indigenous lands, cancelation of logging permits in area

By Faruk Zorlu

Dozens of Mashco Piro tribespeople, believed to be the world's largest uncontacted group, were spotted near logging sites in southeastern Peru's Amazon rainforest.

Survival International, an indigenous rights organization, revealed sightings of the Mashco Piro tribe near active logging sites in the southeastern Peru.

The encounters have sparked urgent calls for the protection of indigenous lands and the cancelation of logging permits in the area.

Recent photographs captured over 50 Mashco Piro tribe members near the Yine village of Monte Salvado region, while authorities reported a separate group of 17 individuals near Puerto Nuevo.

These sightings have raised concerns about the impact of logging activities on the tribe's territory and way of life.

The advocacy groups urged the Peruvian government to halt logging and legally recognize the Mashco Piro’s territory.
