Unemployment in UK this January at 4.4%

ISTANBUL (AA) – UK unemployment was at 4.4% in the November 2024-January 2025 period, up 0.1 percentage points from the previous period, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said on Thursday.

There are around 1.55 million unemployed people – age 16 and older – in the UK, the office said.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate posted another increase from the same period last year, 0.3 percentage points.

The country’s employment rate was at 75%, and the number of employed persons was at 33.9 million as of January.

Economic inactivity rate in the country was at 21.5%.

The ONS also said employees' average earnings rose 5.9% in the country; average weekly earnings in January 2025 were estimated at £667 ($865.7).
