DEIR EZ-ZOR/ANKARA (AA) – An unidentified aircraft carried out an airstrike on Wednesday, apparently targeting a radar system at the military airport in Syria's eastern Deir ez-Zor province, according to local sources.

However, the armory fired from the aircraft did not cause any damage to the radars of Deir ez-Zor Military Airport.

According to reports, military radars are operating in the area and were unharmed during the attack.

The provincial capital of Deir ez-Zor, as well as areas west of the Euphrates River, are still controlled by tribal forces loyal to groups opposed to the deposed Baath Party regime.

Bashar Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime groups took control of Damascus on Dec. 8, ending the Baath Party regime, which had been in power since 1963.
