ISTANBUL (AA) – Twenty-nine children were injured Thursday, three of them seriously, when an unmanned ice cream truck rolled down a slope after the driver left the hand break off and plowed into a crowd in Kyrgyzstan’s Jalal-Abad region who were celebrating a national holiday.

A statement by the Kyrgyz Health Ministry said the ages of those injured ranged from nine to 16 years old, noting that 11 children received medical care on the spot and were sent for outpatient treatment.

Seven children are in the intensive care unit of the Jalal-Abad Regional Children's Hospital, three of them in serious condition, the statement said.

It said that 11 other children were hospitalized at other medical facilities in the region.

“The case is under the personal control of the Minister of Health, Alymkadyr Beishenaliev,” the statement said, adding he gave instructions to provide medical care and the “necessary medicines and medical products” to those being treated.
