These actions are not manifestation of freedom of expression, democracy, says Russian Embassy

MOSCOW (AA) – An unnamed person burned a copy of the Quran, Islam’s holy book, in front of the Russian Embassy in Denmark’s capital Copenhagen, the embassy said on Friday.

In a statement on social media, the Russian Embassy in Denmank said a series of acts of Quran burning took place in Copenhagen, including one in front of the Consular Section of the Russian Embassy in the capital city.

It said the Danish authorities condoned the actions that mocked the feelings of the believers publicly.

These actions are not a manifestation of freedom of expression and democracy, but a rude and ignorant provocation calculated to fuel inter-religious hatred and conflict between civilizations, it added.

These acts should be completely eliminated and those who are responsible should be held accountable, it added.

On Friday, far-right Danish politician Rasmus Paludan burned a copy of the Quran in front of a mosque in Denmark.

The incident took place days after Paludan, the leader of the Danish far-right party Stram Kurs (Hard Line), burned a copy of the Quran outside the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm on Saturday under police protection and with permission from the authorities.

Paludan announced on his social media account on Thursday that he would burn a copy of the Quran in front of a mosque in Denmark, as well as the Turkish and Russian embassies, and the Danish authorities gave him permission.

Attacks against the Quran in Sweden and the Netherlands are protested in Türkiye and many countries.
