UPDATE 2 - Police clear US Senate office buildings after report of active shooter

'This may have been a bogus call,' says US Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger

REVISES DECK, ADDS COMMENTS FROM CHIEF MANGER

WASHINGTON (AA) - The US Capitol Police (USCP) cleared all Senate office buildings Wednesday after receiving a report of "a possible active shooter" on Capitol Hill.

Capitol Police earlier emphasized that they did not have "any confirmed reports of gunshots" but locked down the buildings after receiving "a concerning 911 call." Police ordered those inside the buildings to shelter in place as they sought to investigate.

Shortly after 4 p.m. local time (2000GMT), USCP said "all buildings have been cleared at this time," but the offices "have not been reopened." It later confirmed that "there is no active threat at this time."

USCP Chief Thomas Manger told reporters at the Capitol that 200 officers were deployed to the three Senate office buildings, clearing each of them in a floor-by-floor search after DC police received a call of a male wearing body armor in the area.

"We've found nothing concerning. We've got nobody that actually heard shots, and certainly no victims, and as we've gone through the building, no one has said that they've seen anything," he said. "This may have been a bogus call."
