JUBA, South Sudan / ISTANBUL (AA) - At least 20 people were killed in a plane crash in South Sudan on Wednesday morning, leaving only one survivor, an official said.

The plane, which was heading to the capital Juba, crashed shortly after takeoff near the oilfields in Unity State.

“Twenty are confirmed dead and one survived, who is in critical condition and admitted to a hospital in Unity State,” Gatwech Bipal, the state's information minister, told Anadolu.

Among the victims are two Chinese, one Indian and two Ugandan nationals.

The passengers were employees of the Greater Pioneer Operating Company Ltd. oil company.

South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit has ordered an investigation into the plane crash.
