ISTANBUL (AA) - Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday reiterated his call for an "equal and multipolar world" amid "rampant" unilateralism and bullying, during a meeting with Uruguay's President Yamandu Orsi in Beijing.

Xi noted that the international situation is "volatile and turbulent, and acts of unilateralism and bullying are growing more rampant," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said through the US social media company X.

The Chinese president expressed willingness for enhancing solidarity and cooperation across the Global South, "jointly promoting an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization."

Beijing "attaches high importance to China-LAC relations, supports LAC countries in safeguarding their sovereignty, security and development interests," Xi also said.

The meeting was held on the 38th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Uruguay.

Xi said that under the new circumstances, China and Uruguay should carry forward "past traditions, further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership, and let the tree of China-Uruguay friendship continue to grow and flourish."

The two leaders also discussed bilateral issues, including trade and economic cooperation, during the meeting.

They attended a signing ceremony for cooperation documents.

Orsi arrived in Beijing on Sunday for the visit, his first to China since taking office in March last year.

The bilateral trade volume between the two countries reached $6.59 billion in 2024.
