KAYSERI/ISTANBUL/ IZMIR, KIRIKKALE, Türkiye (AA) - Turkish authorities on Thursday apprehended an Iraqi national suspected of being a member of the Daesh/ISIS terrorist organization, as confirmed by the police.
Anti-terror teams of police nabbed the suspect, identified only by the initials A.A.T., in an operation in the Kirikkale province.
The suspect was wanted with a blue notice issued by Interpol.
Also, Turkish security forces arrested at least 35 people across the country over their suspected links to the Daesh/ISIS terrorist group.
Some 22 suspects were detained in Istanbul, while another operation in Izmir led to the detention of nine suspects, all Syrian nationals. Simultaneously, Turkish security forces arrested four people in Kayseri province for suspected ties to the Daesh/ISIS terrorist group.
In 2013, Türkiye became one of the first countries to declare Daesh/ISIS a terrorist organization.
The country has since been attacked by the terror group multiple times, with over 300 people killed and hundreds more injured in at least 10 suicide bombings, seven bomb attacks, and four armed attacks. In response, Türkiye launched anti-terror operations at home and abroad to prevent further attacks.
