ATHENS (AA) - At least two more people died as heavy rains continued to batter Greece, bringing the death toll to three, local media reported on Wednesday.

The body of an 85-year-old woman who had reportedly gone missing was discovered in the village of Paltsi, while an 82-year-old man was found dead later in the evening in Karditsa, according to public broadcaster ERT.

It said while water, internet, and electricity outages continued in the central city of Volos, one of the cities hardest hit by Storm Daniel, competent authorities have decided to declare a “state of mobilization” for the regions of Magnesia and Sporades, as well as the cities of Karditsa and Trikala in the central region of Thessaly.

At least 200,000 people were affected by the outages in Volos, it added, adding that supermarkets and bakeries also remained closed.

It also underlined that Daniel caused excessive rainfall in many areas. For instance, the town of Zagora Pelion, located north of Volos, recorded a volume of 754 tons of rain per hectare in the last 20 hours.

A heavy rain in Athens also flooded streets and two major metro stations – Evangelismos and Monastraki.

Furthermore, the fire department reported receiving some 2,400 calls for assistance since Tuesday morning, mostly from the region of Magnesia.

On Tuesday, an elderly man died as a result of a landslide caused by heavy rain in Volos, and one person who was trapped in his car and swept away by the flood was reported missing.
