ATHENS (AA) – The EU on Thursday agreed on the 14th package of sanctions on Russia over its war on Ukraine that continues for more than two years.

“EU Ambassadors just agreed on a powerful and substantial 14th package of sanctions in reaction to the Russian aggression against Ukraine,” the Belgium Presidency of the EU Council announced on X. “This package provides new targeted measures and maximizes the impact of existing sanctions by closing loopholes."

Welcoming the development, EU Council's President Charles Michel said on X, "These measures reinforce existing sanctions and close gaps. The EU continues to curb Russia’s war machine to end this illegal war."

Similarly, President of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen remarked on X, "This hard-hitting package will further deny Russia access to key technologies."

"It will strip Russia of further energy revenues. And tackle Putin’s shadow fleet and shadow banking network abroad," she added.
