NAIROBI, Kenya (AA) – An angry mob on Saturday killed the chief suspect in a gun attack which killed seven people at a school in northwestern Kenya, near the border with South Sudan, according to local officials.
Abraham Lojore, a student from South Sudan, had returned to his country after being expelled from the Lokichogio Mixed Secondary School in Turkana County, but returned with three militants from the Toposa militant group on a “mission of vengeance,” said Rift Valley regional coordinator Wanyama Musyambo, speaking on behalf of the police.
After his arrest following the deadly attack, an angry mob of local residents led by the relatives of its victims broke Lojore out of the police station he was being held in before lynching him.
Six students and a security guard were killed in the dawn attack on the school.
The militants who allegedly helped Lojore carry out the attack are still at large, a senior police officer from Turkana told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.
“Our officers are still carrying out investigations,” he said.
