ISTANBUL (AA) - The Israeli army claimed to have intercepted a new missile attack from the Houthi group in Yemen on Sunday.

Military spokesman Avichay Adraee said the missile triggered air-raid sirens in Jerusalem and several nearby areas.

No injuries or damage were reported.

The Houthi-run Al-Masirah television confirmed the attack, saying a hypersonic ballistic missile targeted Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport and “it hit its target successfully.”

The broadcaster said the attack caused “millions” of Israelis to flee to shelters and halted air traffic at the airport.

In recent weeks, the Houthi group has stepped up its missile and drone attacks against Israeli targets in response to Israel's deadly war on Gaza that has left nearly 54,000 people dead.

On May 6, US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement with the Houthis brokered by Oman – a move Israeli officials reportedly described as “surprising.”

Israel, for its part, has since then carried out several airstrikes targeting vital facilities in Yemen, including the Sanaa airport.
