UPDATE - Israel says detected 10 rockets launched from Lebanon targeting Haifa Bay

JERUSALEM (AA) - Israel said on Friday it detected 10 rockets launched from Lebanon targeting the Haifa Bay area, prompting air raid sirens to sound in Haifa, Tiberias, the Galilee, and the Golan Heights.

“Following the alarms in the Haifa Bay area, approximately 10 rockets were detected being launched from Lebanon. Some were intercepted, while others landed in open areas,” the army said in a statement.

Local sources reported injuries in Haifa and Tiberias due to rockets fired from Lebanon on Friday.

Israel's emergency medical service stated it was treating a resident in the Lower Galilee who sustained moderate injuries from shrapnel after sirens sounded in the area.

The Haaretz newspaper noted that the injured individual was located near Tiberias.

The Israeli army confirmed the detection of five rockets landing in open areas around Tiberias following the activation of sirens in the region.

Additionally, Israeli Channel 12 reported that two individuals sustained minor injuries while rushing to safe shelters in Haifa after sirens were activated, mentioning multiple shrapnel impact sites.

Earlier, Hezbollah announced it had fired a volley of Fadi-1 rockets targeting Tiberias and the Kiryat-Ata and Ilania settlements in northern Israel.

In a separate incident, Israel reported intercepting four drones that breached its maritime airspace from Lebanon near the coast of Ras Naqoura.

The Israeli army stated, “Air defense forces intercepted four drones that breached the maritime airspace from Lebanese territory off the coast of Ras Naqoura (northwest Israel).” The statement did not mention any injuries related to the drone incident.

Israel has pounded Lebanon since Monday, killing over 700 people and injuring over 2,600 others, according to figures released by the Lebanese Health Ministry.

Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in cross-border warfare since the start of Israel's war on Gaza, which has killed more than 41,500 people, mostly women and children, following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7 of last year.
