ISTANBUL/TEHRAN, Iran (AA) - The Israeli Air Force launched strikes against surface-to-surface missile sites in central Iran, the Israeli military announced early Monday as Tehran said Iranian air defenses repelled attacks around the country.
"The Air Force is now attacking surface-to-surface missile sites in central Iran," the Israeli military said on X.
Israel also launched a new wave of attacks on the Iranian capital Tehran, with explosions heard at intervals across various parts of the city, according to an Anadolu correspondent.
Iranian state television reported Israeli attacks on Tehran's Shahriar district during the strikes.
Iranian media reports said Iran’s air defenses repelled Israeli attacks on several cities, including Tehran, Mashhad, Karaj, Isfahan and Bandar Anzali.
The semi-official Mehr News Agency said Tehran’s Narmak and Lavizan neighborhoods were targeted while defenses engaged incoming threats.
The state-owned Press TV said, quoting the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum, that none of their buildings or infrastructure sustained damage.
Meanwhile, IRNA reported that Iranian forces shot down three Israeli drones in the country’s western and northwestern regions.
Israeli forces initially attacked Iran in the early hours of Friday, hitting nuclear and missile facilities and killing top military commanders and scientists.
Iran responded with ballistic missiles targeting several areas across Israel, killing and injuring Israelis and damaging buildings.
