ISTANBUL (AA) – At least one person was killed and 13 others were injured on Sunday in Russian airstrikes in Ukraine's Kyiv region and Kharkiv city.
“This morning, the enemy attacked our area with rockets. As of 8.00 a.m. (0500GMT), two people went to the doctor,” Ruslan Kravchenko, the governor of the Kyiv region that surrounds the capital, said on Facebook and added the injuries are minor.
Kravchenko said medical assistance is being provided on-site, and debris from the rockets has damaged six apartment buildings and 35 private houses.
He said an unspecified number of hospital and administrative buildings, as well as a pharmacy, gas station, shop, and hotel, have been damaged in the attack.
Separately, Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk claimed on Telegram that air defenses in the Kyiv region had shot down two of three Kalibr cruise missiles launched by Russia.
Oleshchuk did not say what happened to the third missile.
Separately, Kharkiv Governor Oleh Synyehubov said Kharkiv city was hit three times by guided bombs, damaging infrastructure in the city's Shevchenkivskyi, Kholodnohirskyi, and Kyivskyi districts.
In the Kholodnohirsky district, two houses were destroyed, he said.
"As of now, 11 people between the ages of 15 and 63 have been injured. One person is seriously injured. The others are average. A 73-year-old man died," he added.
Commenting on the strikes in Kharkiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X that modern air defense systems, strong combat aircraft, long-range weapons, and sufficient determination from Kyiv's partners will be enough to stop Russia.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that it launched an aerial strike in the morning against the "training site for flight and technical personnel of the Ukrainian Air Force."
However, it has not yet commented on the airstrikes later in the day.
