ISTANBUL (AA) – At least six people were killed and more than 10 injured in a Russian missile attack Wednesday in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region, said an official.
Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper said earlier on Telegram that “the enemy hit a Panama-flagged civilian container ship. As a result of the attack, six people died, eight were injured, and four of them are in serious condition.”
All of those affected are receiving necessary assistance, Kiper said, adding the attack targeted regional port infrastructure.
He said it was the third such attack in four days.
Kiper accused Russia of trying to disrupt the work of the Ukrainian maritime food corridor, which was established by Kyiv in August 2023 after Moscow suspended its participation in the Black Sea grain deal a month earlier.
He later said that the number of those injured had risen to 11, seven of which are in serious condition.
"I urge all states and organizations to condemn Russian attacks and take action to stop the aggressor, ensure freedom of navigation and global food security," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha separately wrote on X.
Russian authorities have not yet commented on the incident.
