UPDATE - Russian missile strike in Kramatorsk overnight killed 9 civilians, injured 56 others, claims Ukraine
Interior Ministry says 7 people recovered from infrastructure rubble, which Kremlin denies, claiming strikes carried out on objects somehow connected to military infrastructure
UPDATES WITH COMMENTS BY KREMLIN SPOKESMAN PESKOV
ANKARA (AA) – At least nine people were killed, including children, and 56 others were injured in an overnight Russian missile attack on Kramatorsk city in eastern Ukraine, the Kyiv administration claimed on Wednesday.
"The death toll increased to 9 (including 3 children), 56 people were injured (including 1 child), and 7 people were rescued," the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said in a statement on Telegram.
The clearing of rubble continues, and seven people have so far been recovered, it added.
However, Russia denied targeting residential areas, claiming that only military infrastructure was hit in Kramatorsk.
"The Russian Federation does not strike at civilian infrastructure," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, adding that “Strikes are carried out on objects that are somehow connected with the military infrastructure."
Independent verification of Ukraine claims and Russian counterclaims is difficult due to the two countries' war.
