BERLIN (AA) - German police shot a suspect on Thursday near Israel’s consulate general in Munich, local media have reported.
According to Süddeutsche Zeitung daily, the suspect was shot near a museum on the Nazi regime’s crimes, which was close to the Israel’s consulate general in the city center.
Several witnesses claimed that the suspect was carrying a long gun, and fired shots towards the museum building, but these details were not confirmed by authorities yet.
“Police officers fired shots at a suspicious person in the Karolinenplatz area,” Munich police said in a brief statement posted on social media, without providing further details.
The area was cordoned off by police immediately, and special police units were deployed in the area as a precaution.
