UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul bounces back to close Wednesday at record high

BIST 100 index gains 21.44 points, or 1.27%, from previous close of 1,685.60 points

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index bounced back from losses in its previous session to close Wednesday with gains, posting a new record closing of 1,707.04 points.

After starting the day at 1,683.10 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 21.44 points, or 1.27%, from Tuesday's close of 1,685.60 points.

The lower closing of the previous session ended a nine-day winning streak for the BIST 100.

The BIST 100's lowest value during the day was 1,683.10 points and its daily high was 1,712.90 points.

The total market value of the index was 1.35 trillion Turkish liras ($133 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of 27.3 billion Turkish liras ($2.6 billion).

A total of 77 stocks on the index rose, while 17 fell and six remained unchanged compared to Tuesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by petrochemical firm Petkim, private lender Garanti BBVA, and glassmaker Sise Cam.

Shares of automotive manufacturer Ford Otosan performed the best, rising 4.85%, while the stocks of Petkim dropped the most, 2.77%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,859.50 by market close, down from $1,870.55 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was down 0.8% to $81.76 per barrel as of 6.47 p.m. local time (1547GMT).
