UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul closes Monday with new records

BIST 100 gains 16.98 points, or 0.89%, from previous close

ANKARA (AA) – Turkey's benchmark stock index ended with gains on Monday to hit another record closing of 1,927.39 points, while it hit a new intraday all-time high of 1,928.14 points during the session.

Starting the day at 1,921.19 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 16.98 points, or 0.89%, from the previous close of 1,910.41 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 1,898.62 points, while its daily high was 1,928.14 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.56 trillion Turkish liras ($114.2 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of approximately 31.2 billion liras ($2.26 billion).

While 66 stocks on the index rose during the day, 31 fell and three remained unchanged compared to Friday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by glassmaker Sise Cam, private lender Garanti BBVA, and national flag carrier Turkish Airlines.

Shares of Ege Endustri, which manufactures components for the automotive industry, performed the best with its shares up 10%, while stocks of construction and engineering company Enka Insaat saw the sharpest drop, 5.25%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,778.35 by market close, up from $1,770.10 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was up 2.3% to $71.52 per barrel as of 6.39 p.m. local time (1539GMT).
