UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul closes up

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 100,278.37 points on Thursday, up 0.20%.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 100,618.07 points. As of closing, it had gained 200.9 points from the previous close of 100,077.47 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 99,815.36 and 100,876.62 points during Thursday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 668 billion Turkish liras ($117.9 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 8 billion Turkish liras ($1.4 billion).

On the fourth transaction day of the week, 52 stocks on the index rose, 43 were down, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti, and defense giant Aselsan.

The day's best performer was conglomerate Metro Holding, with its shares up 19.84%, while stocks of Adese Alisveris Merkezleri, which operates in the wholesale and retail trade sector, dropped the most, down 20%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,538.00 by market close, up from 1,534.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $62.10 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Thursday.
